Trouble finding flights to Iceland?

The best way to find flights to Iceland is by going to one of the airlines websites. Now there are 2 Icelandic airlines flying to Iceland, Icelandair and Icelandexprss. A new one just showed up Wowair.

Flights to Iceland have different duration time depending on what city you are flying from. Here are some of the biggest cities the Icelandic airlines fly to and from:

Approximate flight times from several cities:

Travel time

  • London - Reyjavík 3 hrs.
  • Copenhagen - Reykjavík 3 hrs. 10 min.
  • Frankfurt - Reykjavík 3 hrs. 35 min.
  • Paris - Reykjavík 3 hrs. 25 min.
  • Amsterdam - Reykjavík 3 hrs. 10 min.
  • New York - Reykjavík 5 hrs. 30 min.

We the Icelandic people are superstitious but not when it comes to number 13, so all the hotels and all the Icelandic airplanes that fly to Iceland have a seat row number 13.

Don’t plan too much
I try to use my time well and one of the things I always plan on is using the time while flying for some office work or reading. But since I am always so fright of flying I can't really focus on anything, the best thing to do is try to forget time and place and I do it by watching a movie.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best

Plan your trip

Flights to Iceland deliver your luggage nearly all the time but it is so frustrating to arrive somewhere maybe just for one or two days stop and you don't get your luggage’s. So what I do is always plan for the worst hand hope for the best. In my hand luggage I always try to have the things I could get by with for one night just in case I did not get my luggage.

The things I take with me are:

  • Toothbrush
  • T-shirt
  • Extra underwear
  • Earplugs
  • Little blanked
  • Light slippers
  • Warm socks
  • Healthy snack
  • A book
  • Water bottle (if I can)
  • Charger for my mobile phone
  • Cash (coins for toilets and coffee)
  • Hair come
  • Camera or phone with a camera
  • Small computer for business and pleasure
  • Lavender essential olive is also very good to have, it is calming, to put little in or pillow or on your feet and sometimes when I have light headache I put a drop or two on my forehead.
If you need boots with you or heavy shoes, or even a heavy coat, then wear them on the plane. You won’t believe how much weight this will save.

Do one plan for eruption?
Maybe you should, there has been 2 eruptions recently in Iceland that stopped most air traffic in northern Europe. Some flights to Iceland were however not canceled. It was like higher powers where sending ashes to UK which had recently used law against terror on us the Icelandic people.

The eruptions caused many people waiting in airports which they had not plan to. In cases like that it is good to be prepared for unwanted wait. So have your book or a laptop with you which you can read or work on. I also have my favorite snack with me, I do not depend on airport food.

How to travel light
One of my favorite things is to travel light. The best thing is to have only one bag which you can bring as a hand luggage. The trick is to have everything extra light and think through everything like what you are wearing on the flights to Iceland.

Travel light

I would plan on being in comfortable shoes which you are going to use as your main shoes on your trip. Have a extra pair in your luggage of your choice depending on what kind of trip you are going on (dress shoes or walking sandals). Have only one extra outfit and bring a bar of laundry soap and a sink plug so you can wash the dirty one when you were the extra outfit.
